Joey Safchik (’21) is a political reporter at NBC San Diego

Joey Safchik is the political reporter at NBC San Diego. She covers local and state politics, with an emphasis on housing and immigration, and hosts a weekly show, Politically Speaking. She supplemented her journalism education with majors in political science and international studies. During her time at Medill, she traveled to the Middle East, reported from DC with Medill on the Hill and was the news director of �������� News Network, with which she won five student Emmy Awards.

Journalism Residency Program

Work alongside professional journalists at a media organization.

This quarter-long program provides undergraduates with an opportunity to learn by doing. Journalism students immerse themselves in outlets in Chicago, across the country or around the world, where they report, write, edit and produce content. Those focusing on marketing and communications practice their skills at public relations and marketing companies. Students are supported by faculty mentors along the way.
